As the backbone project of flood control engineering system in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, Xiaolangdi Water Control Project adopts flood storage and peak clipping in time according to the flood conditions of the main and tributaries, effectively alleviating the flood threat in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and raising the flood control standard in the lower reaches of the Yellow River from once every 60 years to once every 1,000 years. In 1952, Chairman Mao issued a great call to "do a good job in the Yellow River" in Henan, and personally shook the first sluice of the People’s Victory Canal in Wuzhi. In August 2017, "One Canal and Six Rivers" officially started construction. By May 1, 2020, the whole river will be clear, and the main project will be completed by June 1, 2020, and it will be fully open to the public. According to reports, the landscape belt around the city formed by "one canal and six rivers", taking the 15-minute living circle as an example, covers an area of about 38 square kilometers and will benefit about 500,000 residents.
